MATIC hit the market in April 2019 after an Initial Exchange Offering on Binance, attracting plenty of attention. In June 2020 mainnet finally went live, though it was not until launching staking in July that the price moved. After the rebrand to Polygon Network in February 2021, MATIC earned recognition and reached $2.68 in May 2021. However, along the way developers realized that there needs not be one single scaling solution. Instead, they set out to incorporate all of them into a single system and make it more approachable for use and development. This is why in 2021 they rebranded to Polygon.
