Chainlink (LINK) is a decentralized oracle network that connects blockchain-based smart contracts to real-world data, APIs, and off-chain systems. Smart contracts can only access information stored on their own blockchain, so without an external data connection, they cannot know real-world facts like asset prices, weather conditions, or event outcomes — a limitation known as the oracle problem. Chainlink was created to solve this gap by letting smart contracts request and receive verified off-chain data directly, without relying on a single, centralized data source that could fail or be manipulated.
Sergey Nazarov and Steve Ellis co-authored the original Chainlink whitepaper in September 2017, and the network's mainnet launched in 2019. Chainlink runs on the Ethereum blockchain as an ERC-20 token but is designed to connect smart contracts across any blockchain, not just Ethereum. Instead of pulling data from one provider, Chainlink aggregates responses from multiple independent node operators, who stake LINK tokens as collateral. Since Chainlink introduced staking in 2022, node operators and delegators can stake LINK to earn rewards while backing the accuracy of the data they provide; providing false or unreliable data risks that staked collateral being penalized.
LINK has a fixed maximum supply of 1 billion tokens; as of late June 2026, roughly 750 million LINK were in circulation, according to CoinGecko. Chainlink is widely used across decentralized finance (DeFi), where its price feeds secure lending and borrowing protocols such as Aave and Compound. Its Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) also allows smart contracts and tokens to move data and value between different blockchains. By giving smart contracts reliable access to real-world data, Chainlink has become core infrastructure for DeFi applications that depend on accurate, tamper-resistant external information.
The LINK/USD exchange rate is driven by supply and demand across global cryptocurrency markets. Key factors include trading volume, market liquidity, macroeconomic events, regulatory news, and overall investor sentiment. Since crypto markets operate 24/7, the LINK to USD rate can shift at any moment based on real-time market activity.
On ChangeHero, the LINK to USD price is updated in real time. We continuously aggregate data from leading exchanges and liquidity providers to ensure you always see the most accurate and up-to-date Chainlink rate.
Cryptocurrency markets never close — they operate around the clock, 365 days a year. The LINK price reacts instantly to global trading activity, news events, whale transactions, and shifts in market sentiment. This constant activity means the Chainlink price can fluctuate within seconds.
The market price of LINK is a reference value based on aggregated data from multiple exchanges. The exchange rate is the actual price at which you can buy or sell Chainlink in a specific transaction — it may include network fees and a small service margin. On ChangeHero, we minimize this difference by sourcing rates from multiple providers to offer you the most competitive LINK/USD rate.
ChangeHero automatically compares LINK to USD rates across multiple trusted liquidity providers and exchanges in real time. Our system selects the best available rate for your transaction, so you always get the most value when exchanging Chainlink — with no extra effort on your part.
Each exchange has its own order book, liquidity pool, and user base, which leads to slight price variations for Chainlink. Differences in trading volume, geographic demand, and withdrawal fees all contribute to these discrepancies. ChangeHero solves this by aggregating rates from multiple providers, ensuring you get the best LINK/USD rate without having to compare exchanges yourself.
