Bitcoin SV is a fork of the original Bitcoin with the intent to bring the protocol back to the original “peer-to-peer digital cash” vision that was described in the Bitcoin white paper. Hence the SV, which stands for “Satoshi Vision”. Bitcoin Satoshi Vision did not fork off Bitcoin’s blockchain directly but after a hard fork of the Bitcoin Cash blockchain. The BCH community split further in 2018 after the block size debates: BSV was supported by those who insisted a block limit should be extended way past 4 MB or removed completely.

The founders and prominent backers of “the Satoshi Vision” are entrepreneur Calvin Ayre and researcher Craig Steven Wright. The latter is notorious for his claims that Satoshi Nakamoto is his pseudonym and the many legal battles to prove it.

Bitcoin SV forked off the Bitcoin Cash blockchain in November 2018, at the time of a scheduled update. BSV Blockchain received significant support from exchanges and a part of the community, hence the surge above $200 at the start.

However, a sell-off of the “airdropped” BSV coin happened as quickly, bringing it closer to $50. The next moments when BSV shined occurred later in 2019 and especially in 2020. Around the time of the Genesis hard fork, its price managed to reach a long-standing record of around $422.

Despite not seeing much action beyond early 2020, in 2021 Bitcoin SV caught wind of the bull market and ran to the current all-time high. The highest BSV price ever recorded at the moment is $491.64 on April 16, 2021.

Curiously enough, the trading volumes that helped BSV reach its ATH were barely an echo during a second leg up of the Bitcoin bull run in November 2021. While the broader crypto market was locked into a long-term downtrend in late 2021 or early 2022, Bitcoin SV started trending downward even before that.

By the start of 2022, BSV’s worth was already at $120. Through the ups and downs of the bearish 2022, it arrived at $40 by the end of the year.

The starting line for this year was as low as it could get but Bitcoin SV just wouldn’t catch a break. It bottomed out at $25 in June but in July, jumped back to $48, although around that time Craig Wright encountered several consecutive legal losses.

But then, as the market recovered from the “crypto winter”, BSV first rose to $50, and now, in the past week, to over $80. What could be the case? Read in more detail in the next section.

What Influences the Price of Bitcoin SV?

Protocol Development

It would come as no surprise that improving the protocol and platform would positively affect the price of an asset. The tricky part is that the BSV Blockchain Association believes that the Bitcoin protocol is set in stone in the original white paper.

Does it mean they make no improvements, then? Not necessarily: at least the Genesis hard fork was necessary to remove the block cap. Instead of amending the protocol, the teams work on software and features already enabled by the protocol. For example, even before inscriptions and ordinals blew up on the Bitcoin blockchain, BSV Blockchain enabled script commands, which essentially let smart contracts and NFTs work.

In the official roadmap, we can glimpse some future plans for the BSV Blockchain: overlay networks, mining infrastructure improvements to accommodate the Teranode engine, and Merkle service, to name a few. Being less rigid in development than Bitcoin Core, BSV Blockchain can introduce features that would have been deemed controversial in Bitcoin Core, like Layer-2s.

In 2022, BSV rallied against a red market for a really simple reason: a listing on Huobi Japan. However, there is a bit more to it than a new market. Japan is one of the few countries that has a comprehensive regulatory framework for digital assets. Being approved on a regulated exchange in this jurisdiction gives legitimacy to BSV Blockchain.

What’s more, the crypto market is simply very popular with overseas investors: the most recent price surge is believed to be originating from the rising volumes on the South Korean exchange Upbit.

The pendulum swings both ways: news about delistings further undermines trust in the project. This happened in January 2023, when Robinhood delisted BSV. It accelerated its fall against the USD and even more so against BTC.

Is Craig Wright Satoshi Nakamoto?

Surprisingly, the news associated with Wright still manages to hold sway over the BSV price. The legal team of the researcher is engaged in multiple lawsuits over the copyright on Bitcoin and a couple of defamation lawsuits against influencers. In 2022, they submitted claims that large cryptocurrency exchanges, such as Coinbase and Kraken, “misrepresent Bitcoin” by “passing off” BTC as the “real Bitcoin” (in place of BSV), and this case is going to this day.

We have already mentioned a few of the cases but not all legal developments have been against Wright: the bitcoin.org website, hosting the original Bitcoin whitepaper, is to be taken down due to copyright violations.

The community of BSV holders, whether they sincerely agree with Craig Wright’s claims or not, still watches closely for news that can impact the integrity of the project.

The recent price action in BSV has gotten many a trader to keep an eye on this market. Where it can go from here? We plotted a couple of paths using technical indicators.

First and foremost, you have to keep in mind a correction that is sure to follow a sharp price rise. Since the BSV price is back at the April 2022 levels, many investors would want to take profits. The support levels that are most important here are the 0.5 ($57.41) and 0.382 ($49.46) Fib extensions.

However, we can’t rule out a Christmas miracle if BSV just keeps going. In that case, keep an eye on a resistance near $132.73.

Speaking realistically, CryptoNewsZ does not rule out either bullish or bearish scenarios for Bitcoin SV (BSV) in the coming year. According to their estimations, it will grow to up to $88.11 or find support near $61.21 in the worst case.

In early 2024, YouTuber Cilinix Crypto expects one of the two scenarios to unravel. In the bearish one, BSV will be rejected from the psychological resistance at $100 down to $76. In the bullish scenario, Bitcoin SV can keep rallying up to $115–120.

The CoinGape analysts are confident that Bitcoin SV is already poised for an even higher breakout. If the resistances at $92 and $100 can be overtaken, the next major targets for the BSV price are $200 and $477.

A Bitcoin SV (BSV) price prediction by CoinCodex uses an original algorithm to project its average price into the future. If all goes well, BSV will be trading between  $99.06 and $206.55 in 2025.

Using another algorithm of its own, Bitnation gives a slightly different 2025 BSV price prediction. Their estimated range for Bitcoin SV that year is between $292.93 and $347.85. Their outlook is certainly more bullish.
