MEW wallet

My Ether Wallet, in short MEW, is one of the most popular Ethereum wallets. It is an open-source and easy-to-use platform with Ether and ERC-20 token support. MEW was launched in 2015 by Kosala Hemachandra and Taylor Monahan to enable the users to interact with the Ethereum blockchain. It advertises itself as the “Hardware wallet without all the hardware” due to its unique features.

MEW claims to be the most secure, intuitive and the prettiest way to manage ETH and ERC-20 tokens. It filled the void when there were not many Ethereum token wallets and emerged as the go-to place for storing Ether and ERC-20 token in its early days. MEW is completely free to use but only transaction fees are charged that go to the miners.

Users can store, transfer and buy crypto in MEW in various ways. Using the Metamask browser extension one can access the wallet in a computer. One of the most noteworthy features of this wallet is MEW Connect, a companion smartphone app for My Ether Wallet. It permits managing crypto assets on the go with real-time sync. Although you can access the wallet using the browser and phone, all the private keys with funds are stored in the device and not in the MEW servers.

Privacy and anonymity are offered at a greater level by the MEW team. MEW doesn’t collect any personal information about the users, IP addresses and all the information is stored only in the user's device. Other means of accessing the wallet is through the Keystore file and private keys, but MEW openly states that it's not recommended to prevent the misuse of the keys.

MEW lays a major emphasis on the security of the transactions. It can also be used to manage hardware wallets such as Ledger Nano S and Trezor. One of the most enticing features is the option to use the MEW wallet in the Offline mode which makes it almost impossible for hackers to steal your funds.

Furthermore, MEW features an In-app exchange feature for buying cryptocurrency within the wallet. Despite lacking support for BTC and other popular cryptocurrencies, MEW lives up to its claims and offers users with a user-friendly and highly secured wallet.
